This is why devotees offer oil and black sesame seeds to Shani Dev on Saturdays to reduce the negative effects of his influence.
Hanuman Rescues Shani Dev from Ravana
Another popular legend highlights Hanuman’s compassion towards Shani Dev. When the demon king Ravana tried to make his son Meghnath invincible, he imprisoned all the planetary deities, including Shani Dev, to ensure favorable astrological conditions for his son’s birth.
Later, when Hanuman was in Lanka searching for Goddess Sita, he heard cries from a dark prison. Upon investigating, he found Shani Dev trapped inside. Hanuman immediately freed him from captivity. As a gesture of gratitude, Shani granted Hanuman and his devotees immunity from his malefic effects.
